State-of-the-art Treatment of Prostate Cancer Available at The Iowa Clinic

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer affecting American males and the second most frequent cause of cancer-related deaths in males. In 2007, an estimated 2,140 cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in Iowa. Using various minimally invasive techniques, the Urologists at The Iowa Clinic provide several options for patients in Central Iowa.

Dr. Jonathan Fialkov, a Urologist at The Iowa Clinic, specializes in laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) and is one of only a few urologists in the country to offer this technique. In the United State there are only six other centers of excellence to offer LRP.  To view a health presentation on the laparoscopic radical prostatectomy please click on the http://www.iowaclinic.com/515-241-5785/iowa_clinic/slideshows.

Dr. Mark Kellerman, another Urologist at The Iowa Clinic, was the first surgeon in Central Iowa to perform a Robot Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy. This method is powered by state-of-the-art robotic technology that allows surgeons the capability to perform complex surgeries through tiny incisions.

Both the LRP and the Robot Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostactomy are good options for men who suffer from prostate cancer. The two methods are characterized by minimal pain, decreased blood loss and a quick recovery.
