The Iowa Clinic Gynecologic Oncology Department specializes in treating cancers of the reproductive organs, cervix, vulvar, vagina, uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes. Gynecologic Cancer, sometimes referred to as gynecological cancer, is any cancer that starts in a woman's reproductive organs. The five most common types are: cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, vaginal and vulvar cancer.
All women are at risk for gynecologic cancer, and the risk increases with age. Each year, it is estimated that over 75,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with gynecologic cancer, however, when found early, treatment is most effective.
