Two high school sweethearts, Dan and Charlene, can thank their lucky stars. Dan received a kidney transplant in December 2018, which he has needed since 2015. The couple traveled to Des Moines all the way from Montana for the surgery due to Iowa’s short waiting time for transplants. Most states have a waiting period of five-seven years. Iowa’s is 12-18 months. The Iowa Clinic Transplant & Hepatobiliary Department which includes Dr. Qasim Chaudhry and Dr. Gaurav Jain, are the transplant surgeons at the Unity Point Des Moines Transplant Center.
