Common Bone & Joint Conditions We Treat

What conditions do The Iowa Clinic Bone & Joint Center specialists treat? Keep reading for examples. If a condition impacts mobility or results in joint pain, chances are we can help.

Joint Pain

Common Orthopaedic Disorders

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and a leading cause of joint disease. This disorder most commonly affects joints in your hands, hips and knees. Osteoarthritis results in the degeneration of cartilage over time. This can lead to symptoms like hip pain and knee pain. An orthopaedic surgeon or other bone and joint specialist can help you find relief from this pain.

The Iowa Clinic’s bone and joint specialists can also help patients find relief from neck pain and provide treatment for swelling, pain and discomfort caused by an inflamed tendon (tendonitis).

Athletes are often referred to an orthopaedic surgeon after sustaining a sports injury. Common sports injuries include sprains and strains, knee injuries, Achilles tendon injuries and rotator cuff injuries. An orthopaedic surgeon is your go-to resource for all your sports medicine needs.

Beyond sports injuries, an orthopaedic surgeon can also diagnose and treat injuries related to falls and accidents that result in orthopaedic trauma, such as broken bones or fractures.

Common Back Conditions

Back pain is something that many people deal with in their lifetime. The main symptom of this condition is an ache or pain felt anywhere in the back. Whether back pain comes from pushing ourselves too hard during exercise, sitting all day at a desk while working or some other cause, the impact it has on your quality of life can be huge. But you don’t have to put up with the pain.

The Iowa Clinic’s back pain specialists can diagnose and treat all types of back pain, including lower back pain caused by injury to a muscle or ligament. That’s all without a referral. Additional conditions we treat include spinal stenosis, scoliosis, herniated disc and radiculopathy.

Foot and Ankle Pain

Common Foot & Ankle Conditions

Your feet and ankles have a lot of moving parts and carry your body weight when you move around throughout the day. This means they are also prone to injury. The Iowa Clinic’s foot and ankle specialists can diagnose and treat issues that cause different types of foot and ankle pain, including foot pain and heel pain. Common conditions we treat include plantar fasciitis, plantar fascial fibromatosis, Achilles tendinitis, hammer toe, heel spur and bunions.

More serious ankle injuries, such as an Achilles tendon rupture, may require surgery. Chronic lateral ankle pain or recurrent ankle sprains are also common candidates for surgery.

Foot surgery is mostly reserved for situations where less invasive procedures have failed to resolve a problem or in instances where there is chronic pain. The Iowa Clinic’s foot and ankle surgeons have the knowledge and resources to determine whether surgery is necessary.
