In-Clinic Safety Measures

  • Separating Infectious and Well Patients: The Iowa Clinic has taken significant extra measures to separate patients exhibiting infectious symptoms and those without. Patients exhibiting infectious symptoms will need to make an appointment for Urgent Care (Ankeny or West Des Moines). These areas are kept carefully isolated from the rest of the Clinic to avoid exposure. Only those wishing to see a physician for non-infectious symptoms can see their Primary Care Provider.
  • Visitor Restrictions: Patients should attend their appointment alone unless the patient needs assistance or is a minor.
  • Screenings: All Iowa Clinic patients and visitors in all clinics are screened prior to scheduling an appointment and upon entry based on the following criteria:
    1. Fever in the last 5 days & lower respiratory symptoms
    2. Direct exposure to a confirmed COVID-19 positive person in the last 14 days
    3. Been tested and are you awaiting test results
  • Masks and Face Coverings: Based on Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations, all patients and visitors over the age of 2 coming into The Iowa Clinic for appointments are required to wear masks or homemade face cloths. All providers and staff are required to wear masks at all times.
  • Socially Distant Waiting Areas: Patients are required to keep 6 ft. of distance between others and seating is arranged as such. 6 ft. of distance between front desk staff and patients is maintained. Waiting areas will be closely monitored to ensure social distancing is observed.  For standard appointments, patients should arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to your appointment time.
  • Zero Contact Patient Intake: Time spent in waiting areas is minimized by scheduling patient appointments to allow for patients to quickly be escorted into exam rooms. Staff may also ask patients to remain in their vehicles until their scheduled appointment time. Pre-appointment check-in should be completed online to allow patients to complete necessary paperwork electronically prior to entering the clinic. If online check-in is not accessible, we utilize anti-microbial check-in pads that are cleaned thoroughly after each use.
  • Hand Sanitizer: Hand sanitizer is available at all clinic entrances and throughout clinical areas.
  • Air Purification: The Iowa Clinic utilizes modern air purification systems to provide a high standard of air quality within all clinics.
  • Cleaning and Disinfection Policy: All high touch lobby areas will be cleaned and disinfected regularly. All patient areas are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after any suspicion of an infected individual or any visibly soiled areas. Clinics also undergo nightly cleanings.
