Services & Treatments

Your urological health is our top concern. The Iowa Clinic’s team of urologists and healthcare specialists are among the most experienced in the Greater Des Moines area.

Urological Conditions We Treat

Any number of urological problems can pop up throughout your lifetime, from your early years to your golden years. This is true regardless of gender. The Iowa Clinic’s urologists are experts in the common and complex conditions of the urinary tract and urogenital system.

We provide comprehensive medical and surgical care for all types of urological conditions. Our physicians and specialists coordinate across departments to deliver the best care possible.

Men’s Sexual Health

Your sexual health is an important part of your overall well-being. Your questions or concerns shouldn’t be pushed aside or ignored. It’s important to know your options. A urologist can assess your condition and help you understand common — and uncommon — changes as you age.

Common conditions related to men’s sexual health include:

  • Erectile dysfunction (ED)
  • Male infertility, including low sperm count, blockage and other issues
  • Peyronie’s disease (painful curvature of the penis, often due to injury)
  • Enlarged veins in scrotum (varicocele)

Your urologist can also perform a vasectomy, a permanent form of male birth control. The Iowa Clinic follows the no-scalpel vasectomy method in most cases. We also give patients with a lower pain tolerance the option to use nitrous oxide gas to further relieve anxiety and discomfort.

Men's Prostate Health

The golf-ball-size, semen-producing prostate gland — located below the bladder — is at the center of men’s health. Prostate issues can impact sexual function and urination. The prostate tends to grow larger with age and the following conditions become more common after age 50:

Urological Disorders

Your urinary tract acts as your body’s drainage system. It’s made up of your kidneys, ureters and bladder. Conditions impacting the urinary system can be short term or long-lasting. They include:

  • Urinary tract infections
  • Congenitary urinary tract issues (issues present at birth)
  • Sudden and frequent urge to urinate (overactive bladder)
  • Inability to control urination (urinary incontinence)
  • Voiding dysfunction (bladder never fully empties)
  • Neurogenic bladder (lack of bladder control due to brain, spinal cord or nerve issues)
  • Post-prostatectomy incontinence (urinary incontinence after prostate removal)
  • Blood in urine (hematuria)
  • Kidney stones and disorders
  • Bladder disorders
  • Kidney cancer
  • Bladder cancer

Women’s Pelvic Health

An increasing number of urologists specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions related to women’s pelvic health. Your urologist may work in coordination with your gynecologist or a urogynecologist to provide the best course of treatment. Common conditions include:

  • Pelvic or vaginal pain
  • Pelvic floor disorders
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Bladder dysfunction
  • Bowel dysfunction
