About Bethany Harpole, MD

Bethany Harpole, MD, joined The Iowa Clinic Cardiothoracic Surgery department, returning to her home state after several years in Kansas. Drawn to the field for its intensity and ability to make a profound impact, Dr. Harpole chose cardiothoracic surgery because it combines technical precision, teamwork, and the opportunity to transform patients’ lives. She enjoys solving complex problems and tailoring operative plans to meet each patient’s individual goals and expectations.

For Dr. Harpole, the most rewarding part of her work is helping patients achieve longer, higher-quality lives — whether through treating cancer or restoring heart and lung function. An Iowa native, she has deep roots in central Iowa, where her family’s farm outside Winterset has been in the family for more than 100 years. Outside of work, she enjoys playing the piano and organ — passions that stem from her minor in piano performance.
