About Julia Ulland, NP

Julia Ulland, NP joined The Iowa Clinic after relocating to Iowa from the East Coast to be closer to family. After researching practices in the Des Moines area, she was drawn to The Iowa Clinic's strong reputation for patient care and collaborative culture.

Julia chose pulmonary medicine because she enjoys the methodical process of diagnosing and treating respiratory conditions while seeing firsthand how improved breathing can transform a patient's quality of life. Her patient care philosophy centers on treating the whole person - not just a pulmonary condition - and partnering with patients through shared decision-making to develop care plans they understand, support, and feel confident following treatment.

Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Julia spent nearly a decade caring for critically ill patients as a registered nurse in intensive care settings. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Colorado Mesa University before completing her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the University of South Carolina. Throughout her nursing career, she has held leadership roles, contributed to quality improvement initiatives, and was recognized with the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence and Patient Care.

Outside of work, Julia enjoys spending time with her husband, two young children, and two dogs. Together they love trying new restaurants, exploring local parks, taking walks, and finding the best ice cream shops. She's also an avid Colorado Avalanche hockey fan!
