About Matthew Nwaneri, MD, MBA
Matthew Nwaneri, MD, MBA is a board-certified hematology oncologist with a career defined by a commitment to innovation in cancer and complex blood disorder care. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nigeria and completed his fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He has built an extensive career in academic medicine and oncology leadership, including serving as an associate professor of internal medicine and medical director of the Iowa Oncology Network at the University of Iowa Healthcare. In 2020, he was appointed president of the Iowa Oncology Society.
Dr. Nwaneri was drawn to hematology oncology by its complexity and the constant need for innovation. He approaches each patient with a straightforward philosophy: have hope and a plan. For Dr. Nwaneri, a cancer diagnosis doesn’t define a patient’s life – it’s one part of it, and his goal is to make sure patients feel that way too.
Outside of work, Dr. Nwaneri enjoys traveling with his family, working in the yard, reading, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings.
