About Sarah Dougherty, MD
Sarah Dougherty, MD is an internal medicine physician who joined The Iowa Clinic after completing her training and beginning her career in Chicago. Having grown up in the Des Moines area, she was excited to return to be closer to family and was drawn to The Iowa Clinic by the people and collaborative environment.
Dr. Dougherty chose internal medicine because she enjoys caring for the whole patient and considering all aspects of their health when developing a treatment plan. She is especially interested in identifying risk factors early to help prevent chronic disease and finds it rewarding to help patients improve their health through lifestyle changes and medication management. Her patient care philosophy centers on shared decision-making, taking each patient’s background and goals into account to determine the best approach to their care.
Dr. Dougherty's clinical interests include preventive and lifestyle medicine, weight loss and obesity medicine and menopause care. She has also been recognized with academic scholarships and research honors. Outside of work, she enjoys running, reading, spending time with family and water skiing.
