Home Sleep Studies: WatchPAT®

What is a home sleep study?

A Home Sleep Study* is a type of sleep study that you can do in the comfort of your own home. It is a non-invasive test that uses a small, wearable device to track your breathing and other sleep patterns. While this is a convenient at-home solution for some, not every patient is eligible for a home sleep study.

The Iowa Clinic Sleep Center is proud to offer The WatchPAT®?, an FDA-cleared home sleep apnea test that uses a peripheral arterial tonometry (PAT) sensor to measure changes in your blood oxygen level during sleep. It also tracks your heart rate, respiratory rate, and body position.

To use the WatchPAT®, you will simply wear the device on your finger and chest overnight. The device will collect data on your sleep and automatically upload it to a secure cloud server.

What should I expect during a home sleep study?

Once you have confirmed eligibility and submitted payment, you will receive the WatchPAT®? device from The Iowa Clinic Sleep Center. You will be instructed on how to wear the device and how to upload the data to the cloud server. You will wear the device for one night while you sleep. The next morning, you will remove the device and upload the data to the cloud server.

Your provider will review your results and discuss them with you.

Home Sleep Studies are available Monday - Friday at the Sleep Center (West Lakes) and at the Ankeny Campus. We have streamlined the home sleep study process to make it as simple and easy as possible for you from beginning to end.

* If you do not qualify for a Home Sleep Test, a polysomnogram may be needed to appropriately diagnose and treat your sleep disorder. Polysomnograms are only offered at our West Des Moines Campus at this time.
